The spring market in the Virginia area is just like fashion week. Everybody gets their houses on the market for the buyers to view and potentially buy. You have private shows and Open houses to get buyers access to your product to spark interest in purchasing. If this is the goal, what is going to make your home stand out in the crowd.
If you approach it like fashion then you can get some ideas from the fashion greats!
Step 1, if you have ever heard the adage for accessories “before you leave take one accessory off and leave it behind”, that is the same as saying less is more. Decluttering your space and removing personal items will allow the potential buyers to see more of themselves and less of you in the space. Minimal is better for visualization.
Step 2, add a pop of color. If you have a feature that you are proud of, use a pop of color to draw the eye. If you have an adorable front porch, a small bistro table painted in a fun color can draw the eye. If you have an awesome back-splash in your kitchen a small grouping of colored canisters can draw focus where you want people to look.
Step 3, smudges can ruin the appeal. Before you list wash the doors, trim and hardware. It is easy to overlook but the doors and handles in our house take the brunt of the touching. Cleaning dust from the baseboards that we never look at until we do then it is all we see. These are quick fixes that will take your house to sparkling by comparison.
Step 4, dress every area of your home. From the front yard, curb appeal, to the backyard, outdoor living space, make sure that every area of your house is dressed and ready. Spend some time sprucing up the mulch and the flowers. Mow the yard and trim the edges. If you have outdoor furniture give it a quick cleaning. Wash down the deck, clean up the BBQ, make the outdoor show just as well as the indoor.
Step 5, perfume is easy to overdo, so less is more. Make sure that any scent you choose is a homey inviting scent, i.e. baked apples, chocolate chip cookies, fresh laundry. Do you go overboard, it is a fine line between pleasant and cloying. Less is more especially with fragrance.
